7 Simple Ways to Build a Healthier Morning Routine

Mornings set the tone for the hours that follow. A routine does not need to be long or elaborate to be useful — it mostly needs to be repeatable.

Seven adjustments to try

  • Wake at a similar time most days, including weekends
  • Open the curtains before reaching for your phone
  • Drink a glass of water before your first coffee or tea
  • Include some protein and fibre in breakfast
  • Move for five minutes — stretching, walking or light mobility
  • Write down the one thing that matters most today
  • Leave a few minutes of buffer so mornings do not start in a rush

Choose two, not seven

Trying all seven at once usually leads to abandoning all seven. Pick the two that feel easiest and let them settle for a couple of weeks before adding more.

Build around your real life

A routine that ignores your commute, your family or your work schedule will not last. The best morning routine is the one that still works on an ordinary Tuesday.
