It is tempting to think more training always means better results. Rest is what allows your body to adapt to the work you have already done.

What rest days actually do

Recovery time gives muscles, joints and your nervous system a chance to adapt. Many people find that a well-placed rest day improves how the following sessions feel.

Rest does not have to mean doing nothing

  • A gentle walk or easy cycle
  • Stretching or mobility work
  • Light household activity

Signs you may need more recovery

  • Sessions consistently feel harder than usual
  • Lingering soreness that does not settle
  • Disrupted sleep or unusually low energy

Persistent pain is different from ordinary soreness and is worth discussing with a healthcare professional.
